SOTU: Coalition for PBM Reform Says More Needs to be Done

Washington, D.C. (February 7, 2023)—In reaction to Tuesday’s State of the Union Address, the Coalition for PBM Reform released the following statement:

“President Biden’s State of the Union Address rightly calls out high prescription drug prices as a major problem confronting American families. While Congress and the White House have pursued the issue, much work remains to be done. Chief among next steps should be addressing the middlemen of the drug supply chain called Pharmacy Benefit Managers. These entities inflate medicine prices by billions of dollars a year—compromising the ability of patients to afford life saving drugs. Meanwhile, pharmacies and providers are left to grapple with unfair and opaque reimbursement practices that get in the way of supporting healthy communities.

Applying meaningful oversight and transparency to the anti-competitive practices of PBMs should be an effort that lawmakers of all political stripes can rally behind.”
